EcoTech Caving Experience

We will meet at Emmorton Rec Center at 8:00, board the bus and head to the C& O Canal TowPath near Dam Number 4 in Washington County.  We will walk 1.7 miles on the TowPath until we reach the cave, where we’ll eat lunch along the Potomac River.  Cave exploration will take place over the next 2-3 hours.  We’ll walk back to the bus and arrive at ERC by 3:30 pm.

How to prepare:

• Pack a lunch and water bottle.
• Dress for the weather.  Layers are recommended, especially in cold weather.  Water-proof shoes/boots are a good idea.
• Wear clothes that can get dirty.  The cave will be 55 degrees, so we’ll leave coats at mouth of the cave.
• Bring a set of clean clothes for bus-ride home.  Most will not need to change clothes, but a changing tent will be available for a QUICK change.
• Bring a day pack for belongings during the walk, etc.
• Bring a skateboard/bike helmet and a head-lamp or flashlight.
